View Full Version : Small qustions about the finals, make it fair...?!
Is it possible to slightly change the rules for the final, why just to make it a bit more even :eek:
Since there is a euro squad in the final, this can only be fair if the match will be played for 50% on a USA server and 50% on a EURO server...
I would suggest to do all three main maps on both servers single side, for example:
- USA SERVER: RoF FB
- USA SERVER: Blizz TKOTH
- USA SERVER: Steel TKOTH
- EURO SERVER: RoF FB
- EURO SERVER: Blizz TKOTH
- EURO SERVER: Steel TKOTH
If it's a tie after these six round i would say go for the AUS server for the tiebreaker map!
- AUS server: RoF TDM
Please have an constructive conversation about this and not say this is against the rules...

I agree with Poosty. Also we've seen in the *II* vs -sts- match that switching is possible, since they were forced to do so due to a servercrash/issue.

Would it be fair to teams like KIA, DEA, TR, ANZA that are already out of these tounaments? You have played 3 matches on American servers. Practiced on American servers for this tournement. Since this was the rules to start the tournament we all did the samething. As I agree the tournament could of started that way but it didnt! So we prepared and played the way it was set up. Now if we would go and change the finals to be that way, I think that would be even more unfair due to you guys having matches under your belt on american servers and us to have no experiance what so ever. This goes back to when the American teams had to play at 8am in the morning in the BF2 world tournament because the tournement was set up to favor the Euro time zone on weekends. There is no way to do a right EURO vs US tournament bottom line. You can either do a US tournament or a Euro tournament. You guys seem to be doing ok on the US server. You won the last two matches against good American teams. If this tournament was set up the way you speak before we all signed up and every team got the same treatment and opportunity to sign up knowing that matches would be played on both Europe and American servers and we still signed up then this wouldnt even be a discussion. It was not. I have stepped into a Euro server maybe for less then a hour since I have owned this game. Your team played in a 2 hour match on a American server just tonight. If the tournement was set up that way to begin with then it would of been a different story. Sorry it was not. I am sure you will be able to over come this against us or Ja like you did II.
You also never know if you would of played today on both a Euro and American server and II was ready for the Euro server it might be II in the finals. You just never know!
Also dont forget about us WestCoast guys. We get screwed big time on Euro servers. 230-250 ping. Most of you ping 170-180 on east coast servers. I ping 140 on them!

At first I was going to disagree with Talent and say we should give equal opportunity for Euro servers, However he is right. A province in Canada is often the size of multiple European countries, most of *Ja is West Coast in the U.S. or Canada. For example I live about 4000km from Virginia. The distance to London is 7100km. I am only in Calgary obviously you can go much further west, one of our players lives in Alaska. Virginia to the UK is only around 5000km so that seems to be the meeting point I would say. A western based player would be adding upward of 3000km or more to play on the London server when in Virginia they are have a closer distance relative to the two sides. I realize the europeans are still at a disadvantage in this case albeit slightly, especially Central Europeans or those in Nordic countries. A server in St. John's Newfoundland might be an option lol.
it's not about the ammount of miles or km, it's about the bandwhich and route you have to go to a certain point on the net ;)
BTW Talent i disagree with your point about the practicing on the USA servers, we still mostly play on our own server and the specops servers because we don't have such a bad lagg... the only way we practice on USA servers are the matches...

Haven't we gone over this already? Simply put it's too late to change this now. We would of agreed from the beginning if those were the rules and in that scenario we would of been doing our DEA scrims on EU servers not US servers. The truth is I have never stepped into an EU server because I never had a reason too. I don't think most of my team has stepped into one either. STS has spent plenty of time in US servers - besides the matches they have already played I have seen most of them at one point or another in the US stats! Believe me if we did this switch it would not even the playing field it would tilt it in your favor! That said I will agree right now it is tilted in our favor, but don't blame us for that, we didn't set the rules. We would agree to a neutral solution but that doesn't exist, so we will keep it the way it is.
Also as Talent mentioned how is that being fair to the EU teams who had already been eliminated? If this were the rules from the start you might of been playing KIA instead of YWK and perhaps you wouldn't even be here right now.

Server assignments for the finals will be staying as they are now, it would not be fair to teams that have already played their matches, with or without Euro players on their teams, for the servers to be changed now.
Last nights server swap from the Virginia server to the Atlanta server actually reduced the ping for Euro players, I was pinging 141 to Virginia and 125 to Atlanta.
There will always be this "Its not fair for us because we are playing on their server" complaining while both EU and US teams and players play Nova games. For any Euro teams or players involved in the remaining tournament matches, I would suggest that you spend less time typing about your perceived or imagined problems and more time practicing in a US server so that you can get used to any transatlantic "lag" and adjust your shooting accordingly.
ORB practice servers are sitting there waiting for you. If you want a "private" US server to practice in, I am sure we could put a password on the Atlanta or Virginia server for a few hours. All you have to do is ask.

It is pretty likely .ls will be playing sts no worries. You euros shouldnt be too worried about the servers, americans have horrible internet you will have the advantage. I heard they still have dial-up in the states, I thought it didnt exist anymore!

I always do my best not to look past teams. JA has some good guns! A few guns that are top notch killers! Ja if they wanted to be or worked at it would of been a top 5 team in this tournament.

Who are you to judge about if it is fair for DEA?
Believe me, we at *DEA consider it to be more fair if sts gets to play on a euro server 50% of the match.
I'm fairly confident (but don't know for sure) that other teams actually believe that as well), apart of course the american teams.
ORB, give this tournament a challenge... and make it fair.

You guys are really backwards! No lets do this. Lets have a new game up date. Have one team play the whole tounament with that update. Then a week before the finals let the other team get that update and practice with it. That makes a lot of sense doesnt it. Better yet why dont we release new final maps to one team and let them play on them for 5 weeks then a week before send those maps to the other team.

Please stop wasting everybody's time. We all know it will played on US servers so don't even pretend you are going to think about it.
There is no problem with this as it was stated in the rules. But lets get a few things right.
Alternating servers who are you kidding? One match was played on EU servers....this is not alternating. Also CTD are so poor the servers didn't really come in to affecting the result.
A lot has been said about this being a US tourney...wasn't it meant to be worldwide? Poor advertising here whichever way it was.
Overall this is a result of the worst possible set of rules I think i have ever seen. And a piss poor support team for the tourney, phathelon seems a nice guy but I think has been let down by the choice of mods. I mean players influencing the map choice and server locations? lol heard of being impartial? Players playing in the tournament and are moderators?
Maybe USA can play in the world cup final and their manager can be the ref.
As shit as the rules where they should have been stuck to from the start and been no debate. Instead it seems the support team has been manipulated many times and made some god awful decisions.
DFL have the right to insist on a US server. STS tough shit blame the piss poor management with serious lack of foresight.
- No doubt this will be modified or deleted to try and hide peoples views.
This is exactly why people do not do things such as host a tournament for squads to play in. Ever since this tourny has started, there has been nothing but bitching and complaining about ever little thing. KIA didn't like the fact that they got DQ'ed for not following the rules no matter if they did not agree with them or not. They were given an opportunity to play a rematch because the other squad wanted it that way and they decided not to and then continued to complain about it. Other people are complaining about the servers they have to play on.
Realize that the person who is running the tournament is footing the bill on EVERYTHING. He hasn't asked for donations. He hasn't asked for anything other than for everyone who participated in tournament to have fun. All he has gotten back in return is the constant whining about everything. Other than a few people, there has been nothing but ungrateful bantering. This is why Nova won't do things like this. People become irate when things aren't done the way they want when they want. I would think people would be happy that someone actually cares enough to put up their own money and time to host an event like this. Nope. Just a bunch of unnecessary drama. I'd be shocked if Phae did anything like this for a while.

I am a little scared! This online battle is so much more real than any combat i have seen in real life.. my hand trembles with fear every time i get near the space bar... its uncontrollable.. the real life perals of wondering if i will come away from my pc alive and get to see my wife and kids

The 'sog' element in CTD/sog were European-based, therefore, it made sense to play on a Euro server since a majority of *DEA were from Europe as well.

The players in -sts- vs YWS was 14 EU and 4 US, but still we played on US server, how does this work ? Where is my ignorance ? But still you council flagged this game as a US vs EU team. Please please explain.

I am pretty sure the matches can be played on any of the ORB servers as long as both teams agree. If the teams do not agree then it defaults to the server stated in the rule. We are not going to agree to play on the UK server so why are we still beating this dead horse. Unless you were talking to *ja, they might agree to play you there if they win. However they might not play you on the weekend...

Even though I do understand PST's point, I still think that the Eastcoast server is the best solution for EU vs US matches since - as already stated - the US Americans from the Westcoast are having as much lag as the EU players have on the Virginia server.
While I do prefer to play on Euro servers I never had trouble on the Virginia server, dunno how much that affects pixel shooting as I am not really into that (UT ftw) but it should be ok. We used to switch servers in JO matches after 2 rounds when playing US teams, but this was due to the fact that the netcode made it pretty much impossible to play on US servers no matter where situated.
Concerning the bitching, it has always been part of the nova community and I'd even say that's the thing that makes us one of the stronges online communities out there. Beef is fun, I used to flame and get flamed every time I went on Nova servers a year or two ago but I always got along very well with everyone, because I knew most of them from TS or Vent.
Anyway this is not the place for personal stories, I would like to thank the organizers of this tourney for making it happening and good luck to those who have still matches to play.
@Fivewall, you've been on the EU specops from time to time as far as I recall it.

We got doubled screwed when playing *II* on atlantic server.
I assume not all US players are west cost, but then again all EU players are EU. And EU aint big and mostly all come from western EU.
US is big and then again they come more spread, but they dont all get double fucked. But orb will decide, lets not fuzz about it and make flame wars before the match.
BUT I am really looking forward to tainted respond :D
Like i said before Talent it's not about the number of miles but about the bandwhich and the route you connection needs to follow before arriving at the server ;)
ohh and it;s wierd that CTD should play on euro server when the majority was EURO... i remember some YWK/SS match like TL correctly stated...

Cannot harp on Americans for their geography if Europeans are just as bad. Just a little info for you, 1.2 million people roughly in the metro. Located in the province of Alberta, just a little bit smaller than France. Largest financial city after Toronto in the country because of the Oil here; second largest proven reserves after the Saudis. Just remember if they get pissed, probably because of the Dutch and turn off the taps this is the city which will be directing any pick up in the slack ;)

Americans are blind people and think that it is only USA that excist in the world. Thereby you only travel within the USA and never see anything outside. And you get narrow eyed and think that how its in the USA is the way you think its everywhere and also the best.
Europeans are not like that and we like to travel outside and see the world and cultures. Making us a more educated when it comes to world and what is different in the world. So when you say Euro trash, you have really no clue where Europe is, nor do you have any ide how it is in Europe or how wonderful it is to live in a continent that is rich and not full of druglord gangsters where a guy gets killed every 5 sec. Where 70% of the people have the BMI as the size of the Eiffeltower(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_tower. Where your country is all the time at war. The the economy is so bad. You have sharks.

But Canada is nice! USA might be Canada also, but Canada run their country different so I like it more. And the articles say that Canada is a great country to live in.
Ok maybe i am the odd guy out.. But i lived in Europe for 14 years, so i sort of have a grasp on what its like.. Yes you do have a way way way better education system than we do.(Germany). Your health care is great... You get more fucking holidays than any place on this earth.. The beer is the best in the world.. the Autobahn is fucking outstanding.. However... that is about it..

Most people I know have made it across the pond at least once. I did a trip over there a few years back, France, Belgium, and Netherlands. I agree with Toby, at least compared to Belgium and the Netherlands, France was a horrible place to visit. I guess if your into art and old architecture its a good place to go but the people all seemed to have some attitude and they clearly don't like Americans. Belgium and Netherlands the people were very nice even though they knew I was a yank and every random person on the street seemed to speak pretty good english, much better then the average french guy.
What most americans don't usually do though is visit 3rd world locations - the Euro's are much better at that. For the most part americans tend to stick to EU, AU, and Japan.

I am sure they were just trying to figure out where your wallet was. If they talk to you where I live they are either trying to find out how long you will be away from your car, if you have any drugs for sell, or if you have enough money to steal. :) You got to love california because you are close to so much and then you got to hate it because there is some shit ways of living here sometimes. That being said I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I was up in Vancouver last week and all i have to say about Canadians is they are probably one of the nicest people you can interact with, notto mention Vancouver is a beautiful city.
I will honestly say it is the only major city in the country I have not visited, but it is always rated in the top 3 cities in the world to live in, I will try and venture over during the Olympics, that will be a show.

its easy to say you have been to other countrys when they are 1/50th
the size of the usa... ;] alot of americans enjoy visiting thier own country because we have alot to see. simple as that.
in the end the country vs country arguement is never over - just remember..

I however have to say that I do not like the USA vs Euro discussions, they are pointless and always onesided. Both are always throwing out the same pointless arguments in the pointless discussion.
I'm dutch, I'm born and raised in The Netherlands, however I'm 100% wanting to move out to another nation (outside Europe). Not because it's horrible in The Netherlands or in other more advanced european nations (like denmark, sweden, norway et cetera). But simply because I believe The Netherlands for example doesn't give me all I want, for example when I'm done studying I can do so much more with my job in other nations like south korea, japan, usa et cetera then I could in any other european nation. Simply because of taxes and other issues.
Not to mention I'm not against the USA, sure I dislike GW Bush and I can not understand why people would vote on republicans. But nevertheless I love the USA in many ways, the size and well too much to mention.
PS: Just to mention now, you're argument about europeans crying about americans not knowning where some european cities or even nations are is valid. It is true that many Europeans always say that, and I am on your side in that. Since the USA is 2/3 times the size of Europe, it's normal that if dutch people go on holiday to spain, then new york people would most likely go on holiday in florida... it's the same traveltime etc. Why would they cross the ocean and visit spain.
To go back on topic, I dislike a lot in Europe lol, it's a great place to live in, especially Holland, all is fine and you can do everything. But I think I can not fullfill the maxpotential I could reach in my job in the future in this nation not to mention I dislike the 'socialistical-view' of my nation. Sure we need to help the weaker etc, but I'm against the policy of: 'just give them some money' et cetera. This does not mean I agree with the US policies on this, but my way is somewhere inbetween those 2.
Anyway, I'm also studying a 5th language (I speak 4 atm + I know latin and old greek), I'm learning korean lol, since that country has fascinated me a lot recent years. If I ever go move to another nation I first need to decide if it's asia or north america :D
To come to the point, if I want a nice and healthy life.. i can stay in the netherlands sure. But if I want to life in a place I actually realy appreciate... then I would move to the USA anytime.

Many dutch people I know.. and I'm dutch and I live in the netherlands.. dislike Americans too. I don't. I dislike the dutch people who dislike americans for.... well for what? I just don't understand it, believe me, more then 50% of all dutch people will talk crap about americans if they were allowed to do so.

Make it fair
History can teach us how to make it fair for everyone. Over the last few years the youth organizations have adapted the policy of giving every contestant a prize. Even those that sit on the bench are winners as well as all the parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends of friends who attended. We can even adapt to "not keeping score", if needed to make it fair for everyone. I say we make everyone a winner.

now even more as they r not allowed to smoke in closed rooms (meanin bars, etc.) so all cigs r on the street - looks great if u walk all the way on a big ashtray :)
and they do not even have gras (the green stuff u would find on the ground - not the smokin one) in the city, jsut near the prominent spots as the eifeltower and so on
and the 1st place in the actual best world locations is VIENNA - god we rock :D
