As some of you are aware, Instant Impact experienced serious breaches to our private forums by unknown individuals. These hacks gathered sensitive information - meant for II eyes only - and made it available to other squads. Ostensibly, squads we are in competition with in the Orb DFX2 tournament. We don't know who these hacks are, but we did log their IP addresses. And so, we'll make these available to ALL squads so they may take preventative measures. We wouldn't want what happened to us to happen to you.

Anyway posting IP's is not prohibited by law in the dutchlands it is not allowed to hack the IP and shit. Also ISP's needs to block the trace-route towards your house address or something.

It's a shame you had hack attempts but be 100% sure it can be also a loose canon trying to breach your website/forums. It's a fact if you have an NON updated website or forum you can be screwed :(

IP banning doesn't really solve the problem, you need to find out how they actually managed to breach your security.

Also if they really were hackers they wouldn't go directly into your site, they'd go via a proxy server located somewhere like Canada (who actually protect proxy server users pretty well) or any other country that protect proxy server users.

I agree. As it happens, we are able to log individual IPs, and record the web pages they view. It was only after reviewing these logs that I found the exploit they were using, and then plugged the hole. But thank you for your concern!

All i'm saying about IP banning is that if the hacker was ADSL and you ban the IP then someone else on the same ISP could get that IP and try to come to your server .......... and they get their account banned or whatever. IP banning is imperfect, i know as i've been on the receiving end. In BHD there's a server run by ISA and when the Nova stat servers were down all of the guys i like to play with went there. I could never remain i the server longer than 5 seconds before i got punted, when i visited their site to find out why i found that i was in an IP address range that a cheater had been using on their BHD server and because my ADSL IP addresses were in that range i was also barred from playing on that server.

well, the isp has the macaddress of the router and the time it was leased so if they want they can say exacly who had it at the time. and if they has done something wrong and u can back ip up with logs and stuff u could get the person banned from the isp..

In reality a good hacker can make it look like you hacked your own forum if they wanted to, Ip's are worthless with all the kiddie hack freely availble to hide your real address.

I can never guarantee my customers that they wont be hacked as even the best system get hacked at sometime. Including banks, military & Gov's.

I will add the ip's to the list to be checked out for prior attacks on departments that can do something about it. ISP's won't even read your report so are a waste of time.

Many people use the same username/password for their personal sites as well as when they register on other websites. For a webmaster going into the database and get the password even if its a MD4/5 encryption is no problem. There is websites that crack the MD hashes.

Force your Admins/Mods and squad members to change their password once a month
